Biography

Dr Lu joined Centennial College as an Assistant Professor in English and Applied Linguistics in 2013. Prior to joining the College, she had experiences of working in the business industry as a translator and interpreter, in tertiary institutions as a lecturer of English and as a researcher. She received her PhD in English language education from the University of Hong Kong. Her dissertation qualitatively explores Chinese and Swedish university students’ negotiation and constitution of gendered identities in their daily practices of reading English as a second language. Over the years, she has also done research in computer assisted language learning, language assessment, and English academic writing.

Dr Lu has served as an external reviewer for the journal of Critical Inquiry in Language Studies. With her prolonged teaching and research experiences in mainland China, Hong Kong and Sweden, Dr Lu is an ardent supporter of culturally responsive teaching philosophy.
