Biography

Dr Lam obtained his BSc and PhD in Mathematics with Statistics from Imperial College London. His PhD research focused on the loan portfolio of the NatWest Bank (UK) in the early 1990s, and he was involved in providing statistical analyses to the bank’s bad and doubtful debts and defaults. His main research interest is Stochastic process and Gibbs sampler.

Prior to joining the teaching profession in Hong Kong more than 10 years ago, Dr Lam had worked on credit risk modeling in the banking industry in UK. Such experiences further strengthened his expertise as his work frequently involved the testing and application of statistical theories in the actual operation of the banking business.

Dr Lam possesses substantial teaching experience at the sub-degree, the undergraduate and the graduate levels – he has planned and delivered various courses in the areas of Quantitative Methods, Business Mathematics and Statistics.
