Liberal Arts at Centennial College
At Centennial College, our liberal arts education covers a two-year core curriculum (embracing liberal arts and sciences) and allows students to choose their majors at the end of the second year. Currently, we offer the Bachelor of Arts (Honours), the Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) and the Bachelor of Professional Accounting (Honours) programmes. We maintain a small size of 800 to 1000 students, emphasising intra-curricular out-of-class activities, international exposure, seminar courses, reading and writing, trans-disciplinarity, interactions, and close teacher-student relationships. In addition to the small number of privately-rented off-campus accommodation provided by HKU, we have plans afoot for the provision of more places.
At Centennial College, research serves primarily to support teaching. The School of Management and its Case Research Centre have been developing case studies for the purposes of teaching and research in connection with its new Master of Liberal Arts in Management (under accreditation). This is a distinctive postgraduate programme which emphasises a “people-centred” management approach. Students will learn how to take a broader view of the implications of managerial decisions from a “people” perspective, one that is well balanced with business acumen and efficiency. The programme also seeks to inculcate students with a strong sense of self-management, professionalism and accountability to society..
